Punta Arenas

On Thursday, March 16th, we took the bus to the airport at Puerto Montt and flew south to Punta Arenas.  On the way into town, we stopped at the Nao Victoria Museum, where there were full-sized replicas of Magellan's Victoria, Darwin's Beagle and several other historic vessels.  It was cool and very windy--our introduction to Patagonia's famous wind.

We drove to the top of the hill above downtown Punta Arenas, and walked down to the square.

We got on the bus and were driven to a restaurant whose name I forget and whose food is better forgetten.

Our hotel, Cabo de Hornos, is in a historic building on the square, but nicely renovated, especially in the lobby.

We did some wandering around and bought stuff at a supermarket, then some artisan chococolates.  We hoped to eat dinner at La Cuisine, the best-rated restaurant in town, but they were fully booked, and La Luna looked crowded and probably not too good, so we settled for Jekus, which was okay.  As I said, this was not a foodie trip.
