That night, I was up several times, first with diarrhea, then with vomiting, until I was completely cleaned out. At first, we wondered if it were food poisoning, but since it then, gradually, ran its way through most people on the bus, it was probably a norovirus.
It was basically a 24-hour bug, but for that first 24 hours, I didn't feel like even looking at food. The next morning (Friday, March 10th) I informed Mechy and opted out of all the day's activities. This consisted of a discussion with a Mapuche tribal member, then an optional float trip on the Limay River (which Mary Joy and I had already decided to skip. The day would end with a visit to a ranch out in the country, with a horseback ride, a walk on the Patagonian steppe and a lamb barbecue. I was sorry ro miss these, but spent most of the day in bed, while Mary Joy and the others enjoyed the hospitality of the ranch family. It was a beautiful day, and in the afternoon I went out and took a few pictures. The bus came back around 8:30, and people were glad that I was able to meet it as it arrived.
