Saturday, March 18th was a beautiful morning, with a pink glow on the mountains behind our hotel.
On the way to our morning hike, we stopped at an overlook.
We arrived at the parking lot for Salto Grande (Great Falls) and took the ten-minute walk to the waterfall.
Hovering above are Grand Paine, a mountain that looks like a white and gray sofa, and Los Cuernos (The Horns), the curved horns of a gigantic underground bull. Our hike will be to the Mirador Cuernos (Horns Overlook), on the shore of Lago Nordenskjöld.
It was a beautiful day, not windy, and warm enough (in the 60s Fahrenheit?) that we were peeling off layers o clothing as we walked. This was an out-and-back hike.
The bus took us to a place where there were picnic tables by the shore of a lake, with the massif in the background. There, we had a box lunch, which attracted the attention of some crested caracaras.
That afternoon, a few of us went on an optional hike with the guides from the hotel to where the Rio Serrano and Rio Grey meet.
