Back to Argentina

On Sunday, March 19th, we stopped at an overlook by Lago del Toro to say goodbye to Torres del Paine, then drove to the village of Cerro Castillo.

Since Cerro Castillo was right at the Argentine border, we spent our last Chilean pesos (except for one 100-peso coin, worth about 12 U.S. cents) at the store there, then we had lunch at the Ovejero Patagonico, while Mechy arranged our border crossing.

We wandered around the tiny town until it was time to get on the bus and leave Chile.

It was a long drive to the resort town of El Calafate, gateway to Glaciares National Park.  We checked in at the Kau Yatun Hotel, about a mile-and-a-half from downtown, and had dinner at the hotel restaurant.
