On the morning of Sunday, September 1st, we drove up the Black Sea coast to Varna, the third-largest city in Bulgaria and a very pleasant town. After checking in at the Hotel Capitol, we took a walking tour of the city, ending up at the Archeological Museum. We then went to lunch across the street at Halbata, with Stefan and some of the others. After resting and having a very nice fast-food sandwich dinner at the Nutrio Bar around the corner from our hotel. Then we went down to the sea. There were crowds of people walking in the pedestrianized area, and at the central entrance to the Sea Garden park there was folk dancing, by anyone who felt like it, some very old, some very young, some clearly very experienced, some clearly with little or no experience. It was very much like the dancing we had seen in Greece, in a big circle. Even though we didn't join in ourselves, this was very much what the Rick Steves people would call a "wow" experience.
