A Day in Sofia, a Night in Rome

On Thursday, September 5th we had breakfast in our hotel with Stefan and some of the tour members, when we said our last goodbyes.  We spent most of the day just hanging out in the neighborhood, not feeling very well.  We had lunch at Rainbow Factory 2, eventually walking to the Metro and taking it back to the airport, where we waited for our 7:10 Alitalia flight to Rome Fiumicino.

We had arranged with our hotel to have a car pick us up at the airport, for the normal price of a taxi (48 euros).  It was well after 9 p.m. when we arrived at La Piccola Maison, just off the via Veneto, near the Piazza Barberini.  It is one floor of an old apartment building (the young woman who checked us in told me it was a thousand years old--well . . .).  Our room was small but comfortable.  The young woman suggested a couple of places to eat, off of Piazza Barberini.  We ended up at Hostaria Romana, which was packed with people, even that late.  The food was  plentiful, and generally good, though too salty for my taste.
