Craft Workshops, Tsarevets Hill and a Concert

On Tuesday, September 3rd, Stefan walked us up the hill above our hotel, eventually arriving at Rakovski Street, where we visited several craftspeople in their workshops.

We then walked down and across to the Tsarevets Hill, the medieval capital of Bulgaria.  Mary Joy and I didn't go up to the old Cathedral, but we did walk out to "Skull Rock"  (where people were executed by being thrown off the cliff) and back, then back to the hotel.

We had an early dinner at the hotel, then joined the group for a short bus ride to the town of Gorna Oryahovitsa, where the local Folklore Ensemble Sider Voivoda put on a show for us, with music and dance (and costumes) from all around Bulgaria.  It was very good and a lot of fun.  At the end, our group was invited up to do some folk dancing, but Mary Joy was still not feeling well, and I, too, was finally coming down with her cold, so we didn't take part.
