Funicular, Taxi, Train, Ferry, Bus and Down a Flight of Stairs

On Saturday, September 7th we had a nice breakfast at our hotel, then walked over to the Montesanto funicular station, where we took the funicular up to the top, then walked to the overlook, the Belvedere San Martino.  We didn't have time to visit either the San Martino Monastery museum or the Castel Sant'Elmo before heading back down again.

We checked out, took a taxi to  the train station, took a train, to Salerno, then took the ferry to Amalfi, where we waited a long time for the bus to Ravello (traffic was very heavy, on a nice Saturday in early September).  We caught the bus, and after a few miscues as to where we got off, etc., we ended up at our B&B, Punta Civita, about a third of the way between Amalfi and Ravello.  It is a beautiful place, with beautiful views, particularly from the terrace attached to our room and the breakfast terrace next to it.  the host, Roberto, is very nice and very helpful.  His wife, Nada, is also nice, though she doesn't speak much English.  Roberto pointed out to us the nearby staircase, up to Ravello (50 minutes) or down to Atrani (20 minutes.  After settling in, we headed down.  It was a little early for Lonely Planet's recommended restaurant in Atrani, so we went through the pedestrian tunnel to Amalfi and had a very nice dinner by the sea at Marina Grande--the book said that they opened at 7:00, but they were open at 6:30 and let us eat there without a reservation, as long as we promised to be finished by 8:00.  We took the bus back up to the bus stop across from Punta Civita (I'll explain that in the next post).
