Chorrillos, Lima Centro and the Larco Museum

On Saturday, January 15th, the group got up early to go to Churrillos, where we talked to people in the fish market and members of the fishermen's cooperative.

From there, we drove downtown to Lima's old historical center. and took a walk.

Mary Joy and I had lunch at a great sandwich shop, La Lucha Sangucheria.

I had accidentally brought the wrong pair of boots, my first, old pair of Ecco high-top boots, which promptly started falling apart, so I picked up a new pair of Winbrenner boots at Bata, up the street from our hotel.

That evening, the group had its Welcome Dinner at a restaurant I don't remember.

Lima

At 7 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024, we flew out of MSP on Delta 2744 for JFK.  This time, our ongoing flight, Latam 2691, to Lima, Peru, was not only from the same terminal, but from the same concourse.   The flight was uneventful, and at Lima we picked up our checked luggage and met the Overseas Adventure Travel agent and three of our fellow travelers (three Greek ladies from New York City!) and got on the bus for the hour-and-a-half ride (12 miles!) to our hotel (Best Western Urban Larcos) in Miraflores, two blocks from the Malecon overlooking the Pacific.

At this point, it was after 11:00, so we settled into our room and went to bed.

The next morning, after breakfast, we took a short walk along the Malecon, around the Larcomar shopping mall.

After our OAT Welcome Briefing, our Trip Experience Leader, Pepe, took us on a neighborhood orientation walk (with lunch along the way, at a restaurant whose name I don't remember), up to the main park across from the Cathedral, after which Mary Joy and I took the long way back to our hotel, via the Malecon.

That evening, Mary Joy had dinner at Fiesta restaurant: a wonderful ceviche and their terrific specialty, arroz con pato a la chichlayana (duck and rice, Chiclayo-style).
