Oropesa, Tipon and Sacsayhuaman

On Saturday, June 22nd, we drove to the nearby town of Oropesa, which is full of bakeries.  We stopped at one and talked with the owner, who demonstrated how her bread was made, including t'anta wawa, or baby bread, which is used to celebrate various occasions relating to young children.

Next, we drove to Tipon, where ancient peoples (pre-Inca and Inca) had built an amazingly complex system of irrigated agricultural terraces.

We went back through Cusco and up to the hills overlooking the city, where we had lunch at a restaurant whose name I can't remember.

After lunch we continued to Sacsayhuaman, the Inca citadel where the Inti Raymi solstice festival would conclude, two days later.  Rehearsals were going on at one end, around a stage surrounded by bleachers.

That afternoon, we went across the street from our hotel to the artisan's market.

That night we had our Farewell Dinner at a restaurant near our hotel, and said goodbye to the five members of the group who were going home instead of on the tour extension to Lake Titicaca.
