To Lake Titicaca

On Sunday, July 23rd, Pepe and the eight of us who were taking the tour extension took the bus to the airport, flew to Lima, then, after a lengthy delay, on to Juliaca, up in the Andes near Lake Titicaca.  There, wemet our local guide, Broz, and got on a bus to drive to Sillustani, where there are ruined burial towers from Inca and pre-Inca times.  This area is over 12,000 feet high, so we were liesurely in our walk through the ruins, overlooking a lake (not yet Titicaca!).

We got back on the bus and drove on to Puno and through and beyond, to the Jose Antonio Hotel.  Every room there has a view of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable waterway in the world, half the size of Lake Erie, one-tenth as large as Lake Superior.

We had dinner with the group at the hotel.
