On Friday, September 18, we took an all-day walking tour of Beyoğlu, the area (including Galata) on the north side of the Golden Horn, which is the inlet that provided the harbor that was the reason why Byzantium-Constantinople-Istanbul is where it is. The tour was called the Not-So-New-District Tour, which comes from the Rick Steves Istanbul guidebook's name for Beyoğlu. The tour was by SRM Travel, the travel agency that Steves relies on for his Turkey tours and which writes his guidebooks for the country. It was not a terrifically exciting tour. The area itself is not nearly as spectacular as the Old Town and we actually got a more interesting look at it on the much cheaper food tour we took the next day.
On the tour, we had stopped in Tershane, the restaurant at the top of the Momento Golden Horn Hotel, to take pictures out over the Golden Horn. While there we made a reservation for dinner. It was good..
