Montenegro

On Tuesday, August 23rd, after breakfast, we got on the bus and headed for Montenegro. Border crossings between countries in this part of the world can sometimes take hours, but we had left earlier than most of the daytrip buses, and got through pretty quickly. We went around the Bay of Kotor to Perast, where we met our local guide and got on a boat for Our Lady of the Rocks. As Wikipedia says: “According to legend, the islet was made over the centuries by local seamen who kept an ancient oath after finding the icon of Madonna and Child on the rock in the sea on July 22, 1452. Upon returning from each successful voyage, they laid a rock in the Bay. Over time, the islet gradually emerged from the sea.”
Then we got on another boat and headed across the bay to Kotor, itself. There we toured the town, then, after, lunch on our own (we ate at Restaurant Bastion--my sea bass was fine, but Mary Joy didn’t like her mixed fish plate—not fresh), a few of us joined Ivana for the hike upand up to the Chapel of Our Lady of Remedy).
Our return to Dubrovnik cut the route short by taking a ferry. For dinner, Mary Joy and I took the bus in for one last time to have dinner under the trees, at the Dubravka 1836 Restaurant, just outside the Pile Gate. It was a very nice meal in a very pleasant atmosphere. Afterwards, we walked into the Old Town to say goodbye.
