On Thursday, January 25th, the bus drove an hour-and-a-half to the Mekong River, where we boarded a boat which took us to an island. There, a farmer showed us his jackfruit, cacao, grapefruit, etc.
Afterwards, we got back on the boat, which took us to a landing, where we transferred to some small, flat-bottomed sampans. A rower at the back, used a large, single oar to move us along a canal for about 15 minutes. Then we transferred to a sort of large tuk-tuk--a three-wheeled motorized rickshaw, which took us to a factory where they made coconut candy. After a demonstration of how it was done, and a candy-buying opportunity, we walked to a nearby restaurant, on the water, where we had a very nice seafood lunch.
Then, we took the boat and bus back to the city. That evening, some of us went to a "Bamboo Circus" show, something like Cirque du Soleil, with a lot of acrobatics and live music. It was a lot of fun. That was followed by a nice dinner at an Italian restaurant. This was three trips in a row where we'd eaten Italian near the end.
