Agrigento

On Thursday, June 15th, we headed off for Agrigento, stopping for a not-bad lunch at a tabacchi-caffe.  At Agrigento, we met our local guide and entered the Archeological Museum relating to the ancient Greek city of Akragas.  After touring that museum and getting a better idea of the context of what we would see, we took the bus to the eastern end of the Valley of the Temples (a misnomer, because it is actually a high ridge between two valleys) and gradually walked from the Temple of Hera to the Temple of Zeus, with commentary along the way (generally in shady spots, because it was sunny and hot). We were picked up by the bus and taken to our (very nice) hotel, the Foresteria Baglio della Luna.

After we had settled in, we got on the bus again and went down to the shore, to the village of San Leone, for a wonderful dinner (sea bass) at Trattoria Caico.
