An Evening Taco Adventure

On Monday, January 29, 2018, we flew on Sun Country directly from Minneapolis-St. Paul to Puerto Vallarta.  Mary Joy had never been there before; the last time I had been there was on the very first of my eleven visits to Mexico, in November 1988.  Immigration and customs were no problem.  We had been warned about the "shark tank": the room full of time-share salesmen asking if you had a taxi.  The real taxi booths (three of them) are next to the outside door.  You buy a voucher (for us it was 343 pesos--around $20--downtown) and hand it to the taxi driver next in line at that company's taxi stand just outside.

Our hotel, Cinco22 Hotel and B&B, is simple, inexpensive ($100 a night for our room, Verde (Green)) and has a nice terrace, overlooking the bay, where they serve breakfast.  It is located three or four blocks up Calle Hidalgo from the main church, Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, close to everything except, as we discovered, activities operating out of Marina Vallarta.

After settling our things, we walked down across the Cuale River to Mariscos El Guero, where we joined Vallarta Food Tours' "The Street--An Evening Taco Adventure Tour."  Our guide, Jiri, took us to a number of taco places--some restaurants and several street stands--as well as a mezcal tasting and a churro stand, for dessert.  It was a lot of fun and great food, too.
